Maurel Twiggs, 90,
Maurel A. Twiggs, 90, of 401 MacArthur Ave., Ashland, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 11, 2005.


Maurel was born September 12, 1914, in Oak Hill, West Virginia, daughter of the late Major and Maude Johnson. She had three sisters, and four brothers. One sister and two brothers survive.


On May 10, 1930, she married Leonard C. Twiggs in Beckley, West Virginia. They moved to Detroit, Michigan, to work in 1956. They retired and moved to Bessemer, Michigan, in 1969. He preceded her in death on August 9, 1991.


Mrs. Twiggs enjoyed visiting with family and friends, working in her garden, and taking care of her animals.


Maurel moved to the Ashland area in 2002 to be with family. She always enjoyed attending special dinners and celebrations. Recently, Bingo became a favorite activity.


She was also preceded in death by a son, James E. Twiggs, a grandson, James E. Twiggs, Jr., and a granddaughter, Karen Nurmi.


Survivors include three sons: Douglas MacArthur (Polly) Twiggs of Moquah; William (Darlene) of Clendenin, West Virginia; Leonard Lee (Mary) of Odessa, Texas; four grandchildren: Charlotte (Larry) Servinsky of Moquah; William Twiggs, Jr. of Monroe, Michigan; Kelly Fraley of Clendenin, West Virginia; and Leonard Twiggs, Jr. of Odessa, Texas; 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.


Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, at the Assembly of God Church, Ironwood, Michigan, with the Rev. Mark Ortman, assisting, and the Rev. Steve McGinnis of the Assembly of God Church, Ashland, Wisconsin, officiating.


Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until service time at the church. A luncheon reception in the church fellowship hall will immediately follow the service.


Burial will be in Sunset Acres Cemetery, Ironwood, Michigan. Frick-Chappell-Zielinski Funeral Home, Ironwood, is in charge of the arrangements.
