Obituary of Toivo Sirrila

Toivo John Gust Siirila, 89, died Wednesday afternoon, March 20, 1996 in Wakefield.

Toivo was born March 14, 1907 in Erwin Township, son of Gust and Anna. He lived most of' his life in Erwin Township.

For two years he lived in the Pioneer Park Apartments in Ironwood and, most recently, he resided at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Lucille and Robert Davis of Ironwood.

Toivo attended the Erwin Township School. He worked as a cook and a logger in local logging camps. He also worked for the Oliver Mining Company at the Puritan and Geneva mines until around 1964, when he became disabled with arthritis.

Toivo was a very loving, dependable, hardworking man. He quit school at a young age to help out at home when his mother became ill. He also went to work to help support the family. He loved family and children.

On Sept. 1950, Toivo was married to Pearl Hotchkiss. She preceded him in death Dec. 15, 1971.

Toivo was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Emil, Waino, Raino. and Hjalmer; and four sisters. Mrs. Ina Begalle, Mrs. Sylvia Kauffman, Mrs.Helmi Evans, and Mrs. Olga Meck.

Survivors include two sons, Darrell Demarte (Sharon) of Manitowish Waters, Wis. and James (Sandv) Siirila of Ironwood: five daughters, Lucille (Robert) Davis of Ironwood, Stacy (Ken) Johnson of North Ogden, Utah, Lisa (Dale) Nelson of Hermantown, Minn., Christine (Scott) Ozzello of White Pine, and Marcella (Scott) Scoles of Lowell,
Wis., a brother, Charles (Lempi) Siirila of Burlington, Wis.; 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 25 1996.
11 AM. from the Zion Lutheran Church in Ironwood; the Revs. Francis Strong and Thomas Kuusisto officiating.

Spring burial will be in Sunset Acres Cemetery, Ironwood Township.
Visitation will be held Monday from 10 A.M. until service time at the church.

Pallbearers will be Robert Davis, Ken Johnson, Patrick Garrett, Dale Nelson and Darren Siirila.
