Obituary of Nancy M. Tassava

Nancy M. Taasava, 61, E4836 Clover Lane, longtime ironwood Township resident, died Friday, July 21, 2000, at Fairview-University Medical Center in Minneapolis.

The former Nancy Sjoman was born Nov. 29, 1938, in Bessemer, daughter of the late Elvi(Gron) and Albert Sjoman. She attended Ramsay and Bessemer schools.
On July 23, 1955, she was married to Marvin L. Tassava.

Nancy was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Ironwood Township and of Ewen
Chapter No. 462 Order of Eastern Star. She was an active officer of both Lutheran
Brotherhood Branch 8815 and Aid Association for Nancy M. Lutherans Branch 10267.

Nancy worked for many years as a travel agent for local travel agencies. She enjoyed
gardening, homemaking, knitting, embroidery, cribbage and was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing. She especially enjoyed traveling to Europe and other foreign countries.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, and will be greatly missed in years to come. She devoted much of her heart to her grandchildren.

Nancy was preceded in death by her mother, Elvi (Sjomnan) Pearson, who died May 5, 2000; her father, Albert Sjoman, who died in 1948; and her stepfather, Norrie Pearson, who died in 1986.

She is survived by her husband, Marvin L. Tassava, Ironwood 'I`ownahip, two sons, Marvin Jr. (Irene), Ironwood Town-ship, and John (Karon), Coon Rapids, Minn.; a daughter, Blies (Larry) Rovelaky, Ishpeming; six grandchildren, Nicole, Bryan and Matthew Tassava, Gayla, Randy and Andy Rovelaky; a brother, Dean (Kathy) Pearson, Ontonagon; two sisters, Delores Spets, Ironwood Township, and Karen Russ, Bessemer, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 26, at 11 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church in Ironwood Township, with the Rev. Julie Summers officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Acres Cemetery, Ironwood Township.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 25, at the Nyberg-Miller-Paulsen Mortuary in Ironwood, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Eastern Star memorial services will be held at 7:30.
There will also be visitation Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Mitchell, Elmer Erickson, Robert Nousiainen, Dale Broemer, Thomas Voyce and Gary Hakamaa.
Nyberg-Miller-Paulsen Mortuary of Ironwood is in charge of the arrangements.
