1888 MARENISCO MICHIGAN. HISTORY OF MARENISCO. The. settlement of Marenisco begin about a year ago, upon the platting of the town by the Milwaukee, Lake Shore & Western Railway. It is situated about seventeen miles south and east of  Wakefield in Gogebic county, on the Lake Shore road. Its growth has been gradual but although at present a small place, it has promising prospects for the future. There is a large saw mill situated here on the Big Presque Isle river which runs near the limits of the town, owned and operated by the firm of Curtis & Stone. The supply of pine timber on the above river and its branches is quite extensive and will last for a number of years. Its mining interests are a' . present small, being the base of supply for it number of promising options located on the iron formation which lies about six miles north of the place. When these options are opened up and become shipping mines, the Lake Shore road will build a spur from Marenisco along the range east and west and the ore will be billed from here, It will also be the junction of the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railway and the Milwaukee Lake Shore & Western Railway, the former having already made its preliminary survey to this point on its extension from Tomahawk north to Union Bay on Lake Superior There are fair prospects ahead of this little town in the woods which way make it one of the most important on the Range, GENERAL DIRECTORY.
